Bishop Domingos Lam was the first Chinese Bishop of Macao.  He was born in Hong Kong and studied in the St. Joseph's Seminary in Macao.  He had served as a missionary in Singapore for twelve years, and had been active in the cultual circles in Macao.  He was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Macao in 1987.  After the retirement of Bishop Arquimínio Rodrigues da Costa in 1988, he inaugurated as the right Bishop of Macao.  He had received great support from different congregations and the government.  Bishop Lam went in for large-scale constructions, renovated and built schools, seminary, churches, the bishop's office, the Convention Centre in coloane and premises for social srvices , for the continuation of evangelization in Macao.
