Bishop Manuel Bernardo de Sousa Enes was appointed Bishop of Macao in 1873 but arrived here as late as 1877. During his office had been the rector of the seminary and appointed Father António Joaquim de Medeiros as Vicar General. He had also administered the Epsicopal affairs of Timor, and settled the Cannossian sisters who were invited to carry out social services in Macao. In 1883 he was transferred to the diocese of Bragaça in Portugal. He died in 1887.
