Obituary
His Holiness Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, aged 95, died in the Lord at the Vatican on 31st December 2022. The Church in China held a special place in the heart of Pope Benedict. He visited the Diocese of Macau when he was Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Bishop Stephen Lee asks the faithful to offer prayers in suffrage for the soul of our beloved Shepherd Pope Benedict.
The Diocese announces the following memorial arrangements.
1. All parishes and religious communities are asked to offer one Requiem Mass for Pope Emeritus Benedict on any day from 2nd to 6th January 2023 (liturgical text to be provided by the Liturgical Commission).
2. A portrait of the late Pope Emeritus will be placed in the Cathedral for the faithful to pay their respects from Monday, 2nd January 2023.
3. The funeral service of St. Peter's Basilica, Rome, will be broadcast live in the Cathedral at 4:30pm on Thursday, 5th January 2023.
4. A Solemn Requiem Mass will be celebrated in the Cathedral on Thursday, 5th January 2023 at 7:00pm.
