WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY & SUNDAY OF THE WORD OF GOD
Catholics and other faithful celebrate the annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity from 18 to 25 January. The theme for this year is "They Showed Us Unusual Kindness" (Acts of the Apostles 27). The Prayer Meeting for Christian Unity 2020 will be held 19:30, 18 January, at the Auditorium of Sheng Kung Hui Choi Kou Secondary School, Avenida do Dr. Francisco Vierira Macahdo, no. 266. Migrant workers are especially invited to take part. Prayers for Christian unity should be included in the Sunday liturgies of 18-19 January (Second Sunday in Ordinary Time).
Pope Francis published on 30 September 2019 the Apostolic Letter in the form of Motu Proprio Aperuit Illis, which established that the universal Church is to solemnly celebrate the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time as the Sunday of the Word of God, devoted to "the celebration, study and dissemination of the Word of God". The proper prayers and readings of the Sunday Mass liturgy of 25-26 January are the ones for the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time or Mass for the Chinese New Year. The Motu Proprio Aperuit Illis can be found in the latest edition of the Journal O Clarim. Clergy and faithful are encouraged to study the Holy Father's teachings and proposals on how to worthily celebrate the Sunday of the Word of God.
Given at the Chancery Office, 8 January 2020.
